Charles Burton is one of the leading experts specializing in Chinese politics, Canada-China relations and human rights. He studied Oriental Studies at the University of Cambridge and received his PhD from the University of Toronto in 1987. Between 1986 and 1988, he was an Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Fund Postgraduate Fellow with a major in Political Science at the University of Alberta. He has worked extensively with the Canadian government and has also been posted twice to the Canadian Embassy in Beijing.
